You receive the same comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management you would get in a traditional office visit.

Alice Tran is a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) licensed in Virginia. She provides online psychiatric evaluations and ongoing care entirely via telehealth, with in-person appointments available by request.

Is online psychiatric care as effective as in-person?

Yes. Research consistently shows that telehealth psychiatric care produces outcomes equivalent to in-person care for most mental health conditions. A 2020 review in Psychiatric Services found telehealth mental health visits comparable to in-person visits across depression, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD treatment.

For many patients, telehealth is actually preferable: no commute, no waiting room, appointments that fit around work and family, and the ability to be seen from a familiar, comfortable environment. Many patients feel they open up more easily from their own space.

Do I need special equipment?

Any smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone works. No app download is required. The platform is browser-based and HIPAA-compliant.

Can prescriptions be sent online?

Yes. Non-controlled medications are sent electronically to your pharmacy at the end of the visit. Controlled substances (such as stimulants for ADHD) follow Virginia state e-prescribing regulations and may require additional steps.

What if I want an in-person visit?

In-person appointments are available by request for patients who prefer to be seen face to face. Most patients find telehealth convenient enough that they never need to come in, but the option is there.

Does insurance cover online psychiatric care?

Yes. Alice is in-network with Aetna, Medicaid, Medicare, Carelon, and Anthem BCBS Virginia. Most major insurance plans now cover telehealth mental health visits at the same rate as in-person visits. See rates and insurance →
