If you've spent your life struggling to focus, losing track of time, or feeling like you're always falling behind β you deserve a real answer. Alice Tran, PMHNP-BC, provides adult ADHD evaluations via telehealth and in person in Fairfax, Virginia. No referral needed.
You've always struggled with deadlines
You start tasks fine but stall before finishing. Paperwork, emails, and admin work pile up despite your best efforts.
People call you smart but scattered
You're capable β everyone can see it β but you forget appointments, lose things, and miss details that seem obvious to others.
Time disappears on you
You sit down to do one thing and look up two hours later having done something else entirely. Or you're always, somehow, running late.
Your mind never fully quiets
Racing thoughts, difficulty winding down at night, or jumping from idea to idea β even when you want to focus on one thing.
You feel emotions intensely
Rejection or criticism hits harder than it should. Frustration builds fast. You wonder why small things affect you so much.
You can hyper-focus β on the wrong things
When something genuinely interests you, you can lock in for hours. But the things you have to do? Nearly impossible to start.
These aren't character flaws. They're patterns β and a clinical evaluation can tell you whether ADHD is behind them.
An ADHD evaluation with Alice is a structured conversation β not a computer test, not a single checkbox, not 20 minutes and a prescription. Here is the process from first contact to treatment plan.
Book online β no referral needed
Use the online booking system to schedule your first appointment. Alice accepts most major insurance plans and also offers self-pay rates. You'll receive intake paperwork electronically before your visit.
60-minute clinical interview
Your first visit is a full hour. Alice takes a detailed history covering your childhood patterns, school and work performance, current daily functioning, sleep, mood, and any prior diagnoses or treatments. Standardized ADHD rating scales and symptom questionnaires are reviewed together.
Ruling out what looks like ADHD
Anxiety, depression, thyroid conditions, and sleep disorders can all mimic ADHD symptoms. A careful evaluation distinguishes between them β and identifies when multiple conditions are present at the same time, which is common.
Diagnosis and personalized treatment plan
At the end of your evaluation β or at a short follow-up if more information is needed β Alice shares her findings and discusses your options openly. Treatment may include stimulant medication (such as Adderall or Vyvanse), non-stimulant options (such as Strattera or Wellbutrin), or a combination with behavioral strategies.
Alice is a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner licensed in Virginia. She specializes in adult psychiatric evaluation, ADHD diagnosis, and medication management β and brings a whole-person clinical lens to every appointment.
She is fluent in English and Vietnamese (TiαΊΏng Viα»t) and welcomes patients from all cultural backgrounds. Sessions are available via telehealth across Virginia and in person in the Northern Virginia area.

Late diagnosis (30s, 40s, 50s)
It's never too late. Many people discover ADHD in midlife β often after a child is diagnosed, or after life demands finally exceed their coping strategies. Read more β
How long does the evaluation take?
Your first appointment is a full 60-minute evaluation. This includes a detailed clinical interview, standardized rating scales, and time to discuss your concerns and ask questions. A diagnosis and treatment plan are typically provided at the same visit.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly through the online scheduling system. Alice accepts most major insurance plans and offers self-pay rates for those without in-network coverage.
Can adults really be diagnosed with ADHD for the first time?
Yes. Many adults were never identified as children β particularly women, who often present with inattentive symptoms rather than the hyperactivity that historically drove referrals. A late ADHD diagnosis is common and can be genuinely life-changing.
Do I need a neuropsychological test first?
No. Most adult ADHD diagnoses are made through a clinical interview, not a formal neuropsych battery. Neuropsychological testing is useful in specific circumstances β for example, when a learning disability or significant cognitive concern is also suspected β but it is not required.
What if I don't want to take stimulants?
That is completely respected. Non-stimulant options including Strattera (atomoxetine), Wellbutrin (bupropion), Intuniv, and Kapvay are discussed as alternatives. All treatment decisions are made collaboratively, with open discussion of the tradeoffs of each option.
Is ADHD the same as anxiety? Could it be both?
They're different conditions, though they overlap significantly in how they feel. Difficulty concentrating, restlessness, and racing thoughts appear in both. In many adults, ADHD and anxiety co-occur β meaning treatment often needs to address both. A careful evaluation helps clarify the picture. Read: ADHD vs. Anxiety β
