If you are a federal employee, an annuitant, or a family member carrying a Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP plan, your visits here are in network.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program, often just called FEP or the Service Benefit Plan, is offered through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. It is the largest carrier in FEHB, which is why so many cards in Northern Virginia carry it.
Alice Tran Psychiatric Care is enrolled with BCBS FEP for the state of Virginia. Your psychiatric visits are billed in network, at in-network rates.
That matters more here than almost anywhere in the country. The Washington region holds one of the densest concentrations of federal employees and contractors in the United States, and finding a psychiatric provider who takes the plan you already have is a recurring frustration for people who otherwise have excellent coverage.
FEP is not one product. It is a family of options with meaningfully different rules, and knowing which one you carry is the single most useful thing you can do before booking.
You do not need a referral on most FEP options, but confirming your own numbers takes five minutes and prevents surprises.
Which option am I enrolled in?
Standard, Basic, or Focus. It is printed on your card, and it changes the answer to everything below.
What is my cost for an outpatient behavioral health visit?
Ask specifically about behavioral or mental health, since the general medical line may quote you something different.
Is telehealth covered at the same rate as an office visit?
Ask directly rather than assuming. It usually is, and it is worth hearing.
Is a PMHNP covered the same as a psychiatrist?
Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners are covered providers, but this is a fair question to confirm for your own peace of mind.
A large share of FEP members in this region hold a security clearance, and the question that comes up first is almost never clinical. It is whether getting care creates a problem.
Clearance adjudication looks at judgment, reliability, and whether a condition is being managed. Seeking treatment is generally read as evidence of good judgment. Untreated problems that spill into work, finances, or relationships are what create risk. The standard security questionnaire has also narrowed over the years and now carves out care related to grief, family and marital adjustment, and adjustment from service in a combat environment.
This is not legal advice, and your facility security officer is the right person for questions about your specific agency. But if the only thing standing between you and an appointment is the assumption that treatment ends a career, that assumption is worth checking before you let it decide for you.
Separately, and regardless of clearance: your treatment record belongs to you. It is not released to an agency, a command, or an employer without your written authorization, outside the narrow legal exceptions that apply to every medical provider.

They are related but distinct. FEP is the federal employee plan offered through FEHB, while Anthem is the Blue Cross company serving Virginia and administering the local network. This practice is in network with both, so either card works here.
On most FEP options, no referral is required for outpatient behavioral health. Rules differ between Standard, Basic, and Focus, so it is worth confirming with the number on the back of your card before your first appointment.
It makes being in network essential. Basic Option generally does not cover out-of-network care except in emergencies, so seeing a Preferred provider is the difference between a copay and the full cost. This practice is in network.
They generally are, but confirm it for your specific option. Visits at this practice are conducted in person at the Fairfax office or by secure video anywhere in Virginia, never by telephone.

Not from this practice. Your treatment record is not released to an agency or an employer without your written authorization, outside the narrow legal exceptions that apply to every medical provider.
