Psychiatric Care for Adults
in Christiansburg, Virginia

Christiansburg is the New River Valley’s working hub: the county seat, the commercial spine along 460, and home to families who keep the region running while Blacksburg gets the headlines. Alice Tran, PMHNP-BC brings psychiatric care here by secure telehealth.

About this practice

Care for the valley’s working side.

Christiansburg carries a different load than its famous neighbor: manufacturing and logistics shifts, retail and healthcare jobs along the 460 corridor, county government work, and families whose budgets and schedules leave little room for a two-month psychiatric waitlist or a drive to Roanoke for a fifteen-minute appointment.

The patterns Alice sees from Christiansburg are grounded ones: depression that gets labeled exhaustion, anxiety carried as irritability and stomach trouble, ADHD in adults who always assumed struggling was normal, and the particular stress of raising kids while caring for aging parents in a region where every service requires a drive.

Alice Tran is a dual board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC) treating adults 18 to 65 for anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, insomnia, and burnout. All care for Christiansburg patients is by secure telehealth, with prescriptions to your local pharmacy, most major insurance accepted including Medicaid and Medicare, and new patients seen within one to two weeks.

Shift & hourly workers

Appointments that respect schedules built around plants, warehouses, and store hours, with no commute added.

The sandwich generation

Kids, parents, and a full-time job at once. Burnout in family caregivers is treatable, and treating it helps everyone downstream.

Adult ADHD

Careful multi-visit evaluations for adults who were never assessed as kids, common in a region where that simply was not done.

Depression that hides as "tired"

When rest never fixes the exhaustion, it deserves a real evaluation, not another energy drink.

Your first appointment

What your first appointment looks like

Your first visit is a full psychiatric evaluation over secure video, about an hour: what brought you in now, your sleep, energy, mood and focus, your medical history, and what you have tried before. It is a conversation, not an interrogation, and you set the depth on anything difficult.

You leave with an initial diagnosis explained in plain language and a treatment plan you helped shape. Prescriptions go electronically to your local pharmacy the same day when medication is part of the plan, and the first follow-up lands two to four weeks later so treatment gets adjusted on real results.

Medication management

Medication management, statewide

Alice prescribes and manages the full range of psychiatric medications: antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD treatments, mood stabilizers, and sleep medications. Every choice is explained: why this one, what to expect in the first weeks, and which side effects matter.

Follow-ups run closer together while doses are adjusted and space out once you are stable. Partial improvement is treated as a signal to optimize, not a stopping point, and refill questions between visits get answered.

Supportive psychotherapy

Supportive psychotherapy included

Appointments include supportive psychotherapy: practical, evidence-informed work on the stress, thought patterns, and habits underneath the symptoms. For many patients, medication plus meaningful conversation with one clinician is exactly the right level of care.

When structured weekly therapy such as CBT or trauma-focused work would add value, Alice says so plainly and helps you find a therapist, then coordinates so both halves of treatment pull together.

Quick answers

Questions from Christiansburg patients

Do I need to drive anywhere for appointments?

No. Everything happens by secure video from home, a parked car, or a private room at work, anywhere in Virginia.

Do you take Medicaid?

Yes, along with Medicare and most major commercial plans including Aetna, Anthem, and Cigna. Coverage is verified before your first visit.

My internet is spotty. Will video work?

Visits run over a phone on cellular data just fine, and if video fails mid-appointment, the visit finishes by phone rather than being rescheduled.

Can you see me and my spouse separately?

Yes. Each adult gets their own confidential care; nothing is shared between family members without written permission.

How long until a first appointment?

Usually one to two weeks, compared with the months-long waits typical in the New River Valley.

What if I need labs for my medication?

Lab orders are sent to a location near you in Christiansburg or Blacksburg, and results flow back to Alice electronically.

Is a referral from my doctor required?

No. You can book directly online, and your primary care provider is kept in the loop only if you want them to be.

What about emergencies?

This practice is not a crisis service. In an emergency, call or text 988, contact New River Valley Community Services, or go to the nearest emergency room.
